Reading in Kilcar

The Taobh Tíre centre in Aislann Chill Chártha ran a pilot Summer Reading Programme during August & September. Children signed up for the programme and read a number of books each over the two months. When returning a book,  a leaf (or flower or fruit) was placed on the Reading Tree on display in the Aislann library. The child's name and the title of the book were written on this, and over the two months more and more leaves/flowers/fruit appeared.

On Tuesday 9 October 2012 at 4.30pm, the participating children were presented with Certificates by Marianne Lynch on behalf of Donegal County Council Library Services. A total of 14 children took part in the pilot programme and feedback about it from both children and parents was very positive.

It is hoped to expand this reading programme out to include the local primary schools and to run it from early June to the end of September next year.

The Summer Reading Programme is open to all children and young people up to 18 years of age. Parents can also take books out as part of the programme for pre-school children.
