Healthy Ireland at your Library
Healthy Ireland is a Government-led initiative which aims to create an Irish society where everyone can enjoy physical and mental health, and where wellbeing is valued and supported at every level of society.
Healthy Ireland has come about because of concerns that the current health status of people living in Ireland – including lifestyle trends and health inequalities – is leading us towards a future that is dangerously unhealthy, and very likely unaffordable.
Your local library offers a wide range of books to support you in maintaining your physical and mental health and to help you support others. Call into any of our branches or visit us online to borrow one of our many titles.
Recent Healthy Ireland Events
As part of the Healthy Ireland initiative, we recently hosted the first of our Dementia talks in Buncrana library, in association with Home Instead Senior Care Donegal.
Delivered by Dementia specialist Grace Kelly, from Dementia Training & Consultancy Services, the talk focused on issues affecting those living with Dementia, advice and guidance on how to help those affected, and how to keep dementia at bay by addressing some of the changeable risk factors.
The importance of the caregiver looking after their own health and wellness was encouraged and the value of routine and family support to cope with what is a difficult time for everyone.
Grace also gave advice on how to keep Dementia at bay. She recommended a healthy approach to eating, and to exercise, but overall being aware of the changeable risk factors such as high blood pressure and addressing these effectively.
The next Dementia talk with Grace and Home Instead Senior Care Donegal will take place in Twin Towns library, Stranorlar, on Thursday 20th June at 11am. This is a free event and everyone is welcome.
