Night Night North West Press Release
Donegal County Council Library Service was delighted to welcome Laureate Na nÓg PJ Lynch to Central Library, Letterkenny recently. PJ was visiting the library as part of the Night Night North West radio series which the Library Service is working on in partnership with Donegal based Television, Film & Radio company Real Films and Highland Radio.
School children have been invited to nine libraries across the County where they will listen to a guest storyteller read beautiful Irish stories of myth and legend in a vibrant, entertaining and stimulating way. The storytelling sessions will be recorded and aired as a weekly series on Highland Radio in early 2018. Speaking at the first storytelling sessions PJ Lynch said ‘This is a beautifully simple idea, that will have a big impact.’
The series is designed to educate and inform but in a soft and informal way, where those present and those listening will get to experience and learn about Irish literature. Speaking about the project, Real Films Director, Alison Toomey said ‘Night Night North West is a bedtime story format which aims to use the power of oral tradition and the depth and strength of our literature, to explore themes of Irish culture, heritage and experience with the young people of Donegal. In doing so we will encourage reading, literacy and debating and the process involved in creative thought.’
This project has been made possible by funding from the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland and Donegal County Council. For more information please contact Senior Librarian, Donna Cavanagh at email@example.com
