Preschool/School Zone

We have an extensive range of material to meet the needs of children and young people. Access to books is recognised as the most important factor in children's reading development.

We welcome visits from preschool, primary and post-primary schools. A teacher or childcare professional may borrow up to 40 items for 84 days; simply bring along a letter from your school or childcare setting confirming you work there and we can sign you up for a special block loan library card.

Where possible, some of our libraries also deliver books directly to schools, please contact your local library for further details.

The library is a great place to find information to help with homework/school projects. Ask to see our collection of Donegal-related cuttings from newspapers, magazines and journal articles. You can also access our online resources (newspapers, magazines, encyclopedias) at any time or borrow one or several of our e-books/ e-audio books. We have information on local/family history in all our libraries, especially in our unique collection housed in the Central Library, Letterkenny.

As well as access to a great range of books we run regular events and activities for children and young people, these include:

  • Bookclubs

  • Storytelling
