Cross Border Mobile Library Service
The Cross Border Mobile Library service runs in East Donegal and South Inishowen, serving Porthall, Drumoghill, St Johnston, Carrigans, Manorcunningham, Newtowncunningham, Burt, Burnfoot, Bridgend, Muff and Killea. It also serves a number of towns and villages in Northern Ireland. The vehicle's colourful exterior was designed from suggestions by local children. To support the library's inclusive approach, the word library is written on the vehicle in English, Irish and Ulster-Scots as well as in UK and Irish sign language.
The service was funded by the EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation under Measure 5.2 Improving Cross Border Public Sector Cooperation until June 2006, since when it has been mainstreamed into Donegal County Council and Libraries NI services. This is the first Cross Border Mobile Library in the country.
